The presentation will provide detailed information and resources to support schools in developing best practices in-line with the CDE’s “Model Youth Suicide Prevention Policy”. Audience Takeaways: The audience will leave with an understanding of the requirements of the law (AB2246), principals of the CDE model policy for youth suicide prevention, as well as resources to develop and implement the full spectrum of youth suicide prevention efforts according to best practices.

Substitutions cannot be accepted unless received in writing from the original registrant by December 31st, 2017. The NVUSD Wellness Center Initiative is a program focused on the health, well-being and academic success of Napa's middle school school students at 4 campuses: American Canyon, Harvest, Redwood, and Silverado Middle Schools. Each school site has a Wellness Team comprised of school counselors, school social worker, school psychologist, school nurse & health aid, parent liaison who help students and their families navigate the complex issues in middle school such as stress, trauma, suicide, bullying, depression, self-esteem, and relationships. ?The Wellness Center Initiative is made possible through a federal Elementary and Secondary Counseling Grant and LCAP Supplemental funding from the state. The RtI4 Middle School Counseling Grant is a 3 year grant (2015 - 2018) which will provide increase mental health services to students at our four comprehensive middle schools: American Canyon, Harvest, Redwood, and Silverado. The grant provides $400,000 each year to hire a half-time social worker at each school and a part-time social worker "Wellness Center Coach," who will work with the most at-risk students at all four schools, as well as a part-time director. The staff will focus on school climate and culture, truancy, students’ mental health, and teaching social and emotional skills. The grant also provides the four middle schools with teacher training and support through a Restorative Practices Coordinator from SEEDS Community Resolution Center (link here).
